Networks and coverage

Viettel has the widest coverage and reaches the northern mountains too. Vinaphone and Mobifone work well in the cities and along the coast.

Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hoi An have stable 4G. Sapa and the mountains around Ha Giang work surprisingly well, while Ha Long Bay and Mekong Delta boat trips have gaps.

How much data do you need?

10 GB for two weeks leaves plenty of room. Vietnam involves a lot of internal travel, and navigation plus bookings use more than a stationary holiday.

Riding a motorbike up the coast with navigation running all day, or working remotely, makes 20 GB the safer level.

Practicalities on arrival

Activate the line after landing in Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City and turn data off on your Swedish subscription.
