Swedish or international eSIM: what is the difference?

Updated 2026-08-22

The technology is identical

Every travel eSIM buys capacity from the same local operators. In Thailand it is AIS or True whoever you bought from, and in Spain Movistar, Vodafone or Orange. No provider has a network of its own, so coverage does not differ meaningfully.

What differs is therefore not what you get, but the terms you get it on.

Currency and price

International services usually price in dollars. A price of 4.50 dollars becomes a different number of kronor depending on the day's rate, and your card adds a conversion mark-up on top. You do not know exactly what you paid until the statement arrives.

Svala prices in kronor including VAT. The figure on the plan page is the figure that is charged.

Consumer protection and support

Buying from a Swedish company means Swedish distance-selling law applies, you have a right of withdrawal under Swedish rules, and if you disagree you can take it to the national consumer disputes board. Buying from a company registered outside the EU closes that route in practice.

Svala is operated by Apiligo AB, registered in Gothenburg, company number 559466-8229. Support answers in Swedish. This is stated on the terms page and can be checked with the Swedish Companies Registration Office.

Common questions

Is coverage worse with a smaller provider?
No. Everyone buys from the same local operators, so coverage is determined by the country's networks rather than by who sold you the eSIM.
What if the eSIM does not work?
Contact support. If the fault is ours we refund. An eSIM that has not been installed can be returned within 14 days under Swedish distance-selling law.
